Setting up Wordpad as an Output Destination in MFG/PRO

To configure Wordpad as an output destination, define a printer in 36.13.2 as seen below.

Important things to note are:

  1. The first piece of input that really matters is the device pathname. MFG/PRO will create this file in the user’s starting directory.
  2. If you are using Citrix or Terminal Server, each client must have their own starting directory. Otherwise, users can corrupt and update each others’ files.
  3. The reset command includes the path to call Wordpad, followed by the file name you entered as the device pathname in step 1. Note that you have a space limitation: if the path is too long, you can’t fit it and the file in the field. You can get around this by making sure that Wordpad is in your path.
  4. No further setup for the barcode controls is required.
  5. After you exit Wordpad, your file is still available in your current working directory. This means you can go back and look at it again if needed.

Many thanks to Robert Archard (aka OptimusBob) who originally provided the basic information for this setup on the Progress Email Group (PEG).
