OpenEdge Platform Provides MXP Customers With A Seamless Web-Enablement Option
The Progress Company, a business unit of Progress Software Corporation (Nasdaq: PRGS) and a leading supplier of technology for building ebusiness applications, announced today that Atlanta-based partners BravePoint and Foresight Software have signed a collaborative agreement to offer Foresight customers BravePoint's webproEX® B2B and B2C solution for web-enabling Progress based applications. Because both solutions are built on the Progress® OpenEdge" platform, introducing webproEX is seamless, allowing Foresight customers to quickly and cost-effectively add Internet e-commerce functionality to their existing ERP solution without changing any source code.
"With the growing push towards lean manufacturing, businesses need to be able to take data from the back office and move it to the Internet in a cost effective manner," said Rod Austin, president of Foresight. "By introducing an integrated product like webproEX, we can web-enable MXP, providing a gateway for suppliers to access information, improve customer service and reduce cycle times which add up to process efficiency savings."
MXP, an ERP for the manufacturing industry installed in over 1,000 locations worldwide, offers effortless work and data flow from sales to manufacturing to financials. Based on OpenEdge, MXP ensures that departments have real-time access to accurate information and pricing, creating a common base of communication. BravePoint, a leading developer of e-business and enterprise solutions, uses Progress WebSpeed® as the basis for webproEX. WebSpeed is a proven OpenEdge client processing technology that provides high transaction volumes and rapid response times for browser-based applications. Used for quickly building and deploying business applications across corporate intranets, extranets, and the Internet, WebSpeed offers a rich development environment, flexible deployment and ease of use.
"We built webproEX on OpenEdge because it gives us the flexibility to meet our customer's business needs as well as accommodating almost any technology environment," said John Harlow, president of BravePoint. "With this collaborative approach, MXP customers can immediately reap the benefits of the Internet, as Foresight continues to find other ways to keep MXP ahead of industry trends."
Customers like Carlson Systems, one of the 50th largest industrial distribution companies in the United States, distributing fastening, packaging and product assembly systems, are already benefiting from webproEX's seamless integration and cost effective B2B functionality.
"We really liked MXP's rich functionality and low maintenance but we needed a way to open up that information to our customers," said Mike Carlson, Vice President of E-Commerce and Information Systems for Carlson Systems. "We liked webproEX because of its low cost, quick implementation and customizable operation. If people can educate themselves online about products and you give them a way to order above and beyond phones and fax machines, they are going make more informed choices, eliminating errors and service issues, and you are going to sell more. We currently average 80 orders per month resulting in $60,000 online sales and the site is accessed about 400 times per month. Another benefit, important to our customers, is the ability for them to look up their past orders and account history on-line. WebproEX has become a great business to business tool for Carlson Systems."
