Progress ISV BravePoint Gets Snapple Up and Running in Just Three
Weeks,Simplifying the Ordering Process, Saving Time and Money
The Progress Company, a business unit of Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS) and a leading supplier of technology for building e-business solutions, today announced that Snapple Beverage Group, a unit of Cadbury Schweppes, Inc. (NYSE:CSG), with a beverage brand portfolio that includes Snapple, Mistic and Stewart's, has web-enabled their order entry system through Progress ISV BravePoint’s Webpro EX product in just three weeks.
BravePoint, a leading developer of e-business and enterprise solutions for Global 2000 companies and a Progress partner for 14 years, uses Progress WebSpeed® technology as the basis for Webpro EX. WebSpeed, one of the application servers at the core of the Progress OpenEdgeTM ebusiness platform, provides an optimized transaction-processing environment to help achieve high transaction volumes and rapid responses for browserbased Web applications. This has enabled BravePoint to offer Snapple a web-based front-end to their existing Progress-based MFG/PRO™ ERP application, without changing any of MFG/PRO’s original source code. In just three weeks Snapple, headquartered in White Plains, NY, has been able to implement a scalable order entry solution through its existing website, save time and money, and reduce the possibility of human error. Since Webpro EX can also be dynamically configured, Snapple did not have to worry about making any additional changes to the Snapple website itself.
Prior to implementing Webpro EX, Snapple relied heavily on a labor-intensive process of pulling distributor’s orders off fax machines, only to have clerks re-key the often handwritten information into MFG/PRO. It would then take 24-48 hours for confirmations to be faxed back. Taking into consideration Snapple ships 65 million cases of product for their combined brands each year, the needed for a more efficient process was evident. With the addition of Webpro EX, distributors themselves can fulfill orders on demand,
receive instant validation, and access real-time information such as order history, inventory, and shipping status. Additional product extensions will enable distributors to share inventory information, empowering Snapple to more accurately forecast production needs.
In addition to distributor efficiencies, Snapple’s customer service teams and field sales people have increased their already excellent level of service because Webpro EX enables them to more accurately track orders and answer customer questions.
According to John Harlow, President of BravePoint, the transition was relatively easy. “The portability and productivity of the Progress toolset has allowed us to quickly design and implement a full featured e-business interface which has been deployed over a variety of Progress-based ERP systems.”
Joe Holland, Vice President of Information Technology for Snapple Beverage Group was also surprised at the ease of the transition. “For a company of our size we never thought we’d be up and running this fast.”
Holland adds, "Snapple has been a Progress shop for the last seven years based on the resilience and cost of the Progress database being incomparable, far exceeding the performance of leading database alternatives. BravePoint’s Progress-based WebPro EX was a natural choice in giving us a simple web-based front-end, in half the time we expected, with an easy learning curve for our distributors. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with our top 40 distributors, who account for nearly 65 percent of our business, already signed on."
